FAQ's about Getting Connected

how do i get online (apartment complexes and Daily users)?

First you will need an 802.11 b or g WIFI (please do not get an “a” adapter) enabled computer. For laptops, this means either having a third party PCMCIA WIFI card, or having a laptop with WIFI built in. For desktop users, this means having either a USB WIFI adapter or a WIFI client connected to your standard ethernet port. We recommend buying a device which will sit on your desk to maximize your signal reception. Note: We do not recommend installing a WIFI PC card inside your desktop as this places your receiver behind the computer and possibly near the floor where the signal is weakest. All of the above devices can be purchased at most common consumer electronics or office supply stores.

Windows 98/ME/2000 users-
After installing your WIFI adapter and the monitoring/control software utility that comes with it, open the utility. Most utilities have a section that allows you to scan for WIFI transmitters. Once you scan for a transmitter, a series of SSID’s (station identifiers) will be shown. Select the station with the strongest signal and hit the connect button. In some utilities, you may have to physically type in the SSID in a “connect” section. Click the apply button if you have one and you should be connected to our system. Open a web browser and click the “sign up” button. If your device can not find an SSID to connect to please call us and we will tell you the SSID to enter.

Windows XP users-
Most versions of Windows XP will attempt to manage your wireless connection for you. Please download our document describing how to configure Windows XP here.
